2.3.2   Geology, Vegetation Flora

The complex geological structure, along with a favourable climate in the North, the middle-part of the City area and the South, are the propelling powers for an abundant  vegetation of Weinan City Region.

Geologically, the North is influenced by the strong loess layers, mixed with clay. A similar geologic mixture can be found, above all, in the northern catchment area of the Wei River flowing along the length of Guanzhong Plain.

Otherwise, the Plain cum foothills of Qin Ling are covered by fertile earths avove a basal stratum of granite (~5,500-6,000 meters high).

Whereas in the northern region wheat and corn mark the predominant vegetation, the eastern slopes towards the Yellow River valley and the Plain show vast fruit-growing and large vegetable plantations. Fruits are famous for their quality and their savouriness: apples, pears, jujube (eaten as normal fruit, but also herbal medicine maintenance of blood flow, body, hormones, bones etc),.

In the South, hence at the foothills of Qin Mountain Range: hawthorn, as fruits, in addition, forestry and tourism, are typical for this part of the region.

Trees: gingko, hankerchief, oneflower kingdonia, Qin Ling fir, koptis tecta;Pinus armandii,masson pine,Chinese pine,Platycladus orientalis etc

persimmon trees can be found  “en masse” along the hillside of villages, 

jujube trees are cultivated, preponderantly, in the northern counties etc.;

Plants: Plants: about 138 species of wild growing plants can be found. Moreover,247 types of medicinal plants, are being cultivated, among others, Fortune's Drynaria Rhizome,Polygonum aviculare, Japanese Ampelopsis Root, Cynanchum atratum,hawthorn shrubs, wolf  berry shrubs etc

2.3.3  Fauna:

The large expanse of Weinan’s territory allows for habitat and life of animals. Biologists counted during a research of 2011, per species: 431 vertebrates, incl, 152 mammals, birds, 23 reptiles, 24 amphibious animals.

Among those wild birds being protected, are, particularly: golden eagle, white shoulder eagle, great bustard, read crown crane, grey crane. black and white stork, mandarin duck (living mainly in the wetlands of Yellow River; reptiles and amphibians: mainly betweenHuangMt.and Qin Mountain Range, middle section of Guanzhong Plain)

Among fish: spoonbill

Among domesticated species (41), worth of particular mention: sika deer, ostrich, peacock, paguna, porcupine, fish (living mainly in the wetlands of Yellow River.
